Daily Challenge Debate

We started our persuasive writing unit today. Students were given a variety of topics and asked to take a side, while providing evidence to support their opinion. We are going to try an online debate, through our classroom blog. You can respond and rebuttal the other comments that are posted.

Topic: Should homework be banned?

Signatures will be rewarded based on your level of support :)

Don't forget to study for our science test tomorrow.

Have a good night!

  1. no because if you are really behind on your work than the whole class has to wait for you to learn a lessen or if you Finnish your work it also helps improve your learning skills so you don't have as much homework for the next time.

  2. SHOULD HOMEWORK BE BANNED?
As much as I would enjoy not to do homework, I think it is a mandatory part of learning. Homework should, although, be limited. I think that it would be fairest if the teachers made specific days of the week for homework. Homework is important because it helps us perfect skills, that at school, we did not understand the concept of. Also, homework prepares you for the real world, if you have a job later in your life, it will not be done all at work, you will need to take home some extra work unless you would like to be fired, in which case, skip homework and advance in life completely unprepared. Homework also prepare kids for high school, In high school, you would have tens of hours used a WEEK studying. Another reason is that doing homework will raise your grades and helps kids memorize the prospect of which they are learning, Homework also helps create good studying habits. Homework also helps kids manage their schedules and improve their time management. The opposition will argue that Homework will take up too much time, meaning kids don't get their play 60, but realistically, homework does not take up your entire night, you will have time for other things. Homework also teaches kids responsibility, in that they are using their own time to do their homework. Plus, if you are on the opposing side, you should not be on the blog right now because this technically classifies as homework. These are the reasons why homework should definitely not be banned. - GARRETT

  3. No, home work shouldn't be banned. I think this because, what if a person was fooling around at school during the time that they were supposed to be working on a project. for example what if they had 5 periods to work on an alien project and the whole time they were playing around with clay and talking and are continuously off task. Then when the due dates come around they keep asking for extensions, then that would be a time when they should have to take it home and do homework.

But if teachers are giving you homework that is to only be done at home and not giving you time at school for it, then I would say yes it should be banned. But that is because some people have a sport that night, or you have financial problems and cant afford the tools that they can get access to while they are at school, they just are busy or home alone most nights and they need help with the homework and there is no one home to help with it.

so No and Yes. No it shouldn't be banned, for if they didn't do it during class while they had time. Yes it should be banned because they shouldn't have to do homework at home while they didn't have time at school to work on it.

  4. I could 100% argue both ways, but I'll explain. Obviously if you don't finish something that was due in class time, then you should bring it home and get it done. Also if you are struggling on understanding something that you are learning in class, then it wouldn't hurt to take it home and practice. If the type of homework you are doing DOESN'T fall under these categories... I don't believe it's necessary. My reasoning for this is that if the teacher doesn't have enough time to finish teaching it in class, then the student is not at fault. Also, if you are doing the homework and don't have someone around that fully understands what you are doing, that could put you in a bad habit of doing the work incorrectly. Afterwards you might not understand what you did wrong because your teacher wasn't there to answer questions. If you are thinking in your head while reading this, "well your parents could explain it to you!" your parents might have done the same work as you... but it might have been to long ago for them to remember. (Like I said before, I could argue this point both ways, this was just easier for me to support.) Feel free to contradict me :)

    1. Your response is really good:). Although you did say that you might have someone around who doesn't fully understand, but as I said in response to Kiefer, Some help is better than none, and you could help your parents understand so they could help you

  6. I could be on both sides. But i am not in favour to have homework banned because if you are struggling or having a hard time in school then i think you should have homework. Another reason to support my answer is if you have missed a couple of days of school then i think you should have homework so you can be caught up to the class. If you don't do it as homework then you will fall behind in class. Another reason is if something is due and you are not given anymore class time then that's when i would bring it home to work on it. The last reason i have is that is you are not understanding something in class then i would bring it home and ask for help from a parent. I think that because it is bad to not understand something in class and then the night before the test you have to spend extra time on that question. That is why i think homework should not be banned.

  8. I could go either way but I'm going to say no, I don't think homework should be banned. All the things I was thinking have pretty much already been said. But I do have one more point. If you bring home homework most likely your parents will see it if not help you with it. So it would help your parents keep up in what your doing in class.

So long story short it gets your parents more ivolved in what your doing at school.

Although Mrs.Breau this still doesn't mean I want homework

    1. To contradict against Kiefer's comment, your parents might not be a big help if they did it so long ago that they don't remember how to. :\

    2. I sort of agree, Sorry Kief! Although I also agree to Kiefer in the sense that Some help is better than none

  9. i do not think that homework should be banned. i think this because what if students spend their time wisely in class and they were not allowed to do homework then they would always be the person that never hands in there work late even though they spent their time wisely. another reason why i don't think that homework should be banned is because doing homework is a important learning skill that you need to have. you need this skill , doing homework shows that you are spending your own time and prioritising.this also shows a teacher that you care about having work done and handed in.another reason why i think that homework is important is because it is good practice for school and if you practice more than it will help your mark and since you practised more it will be easier to remember the stuff that you did as homework.

  11. i think that homework shouldn't be banned because homework could prepare you for the future and if homework would we wouldn't be as smart and if we didn't finish our work at school we wouldn't be able to finish at home

  13. Hi everyone! I think home work shouldn't be banned because homework forces responsibility. If you don't do your homework, you will not only get in trouble but you will also fall behind in your work and not understand what's happening in class. Also if you bring your homework home than your parents know where you are at and can contact the teacher if you need help. Sadly, homework shouldn't be banned.

  14. I think they shouldn't band home work because homework keeps some people out of trouble but it also builds character in thoughts people

  15. I think homework shouldn't be banned because when you're older, you will have a job and homework will prepare you for your future responsibilities. If you fall behind in class or are on vacation and you miss a lot of work, you will need to catch up and homework is pretty much the only way to do that. Sometimes students need extra help with challenging tasks and they might need to try some extra questions to help them understand it better and homework would be a way for them to do that.
