Weekly Update & Math Challenge

 Good Evening Everyone,

We have a very busy week in our classroom! Here is a quick look at the week ahead.

 

Literacy: 

Reading: We are continuing working with our book Word Nerd and a variety of reading strategies

-In guided reading we are looking at character traits and proving our answer with a quote from the text

 

Writing:

-Halloween Narratives Draft Copy -due on Wednesday

-We will be peer editing and conferencing this week 

-Remember to add three pieces of figurative language  


Math:

-We are wrapping up our operations unit this week 

-Test details and math review will be posted later in the week 


Science -

We are wrapping up our biodiversity unit this week


Social Studies-

Our first unit will be on Canada's Past and Present - Students will be exploring diversity 

 Drama:

Remembrance Day Production- we have been working really hard on our I-Movie. I will share the link once it is created 

Agenda:

-This week students will bring home a conference letter. Teacher conferences this year will be held via Google Meet or over the phone. More info to follow 



Here is some practice questions with long division. This challenge will be worth double signatures

Biodiversity Review

 

Biodiversity Review Sheet

 

Classification of Living Things: The purpose of most classification system is to organize members into similar groups (Why do we classify things? How do we classify things? (Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species)

Characteristics of Life:

  1. Cells- all living things have cells
  2. Metabolism- all living things eat, drink, breath, excrete
  3. Growth- all living things take material in to enlarge
  4. Reproduction- all living things are able to produce copies of themselves
  5. Irritability- all living things are able to react to change in their environment
  6. Adaption – all living things are able to compete with each other for food and space to survive
  7. Movement- all living things are able to move

 

Structural Adaptations: Is the way plants or animals look in their habitat. The plant/animal uses its structural adaption to survive. For example, speed, camouflage, teeth, eyes, fur, hair, paws claws, hoofs, legs, long necks, noses.

 

Behavioural Adaption: Is the way plants and animals act in their habitat. The plant or animal uses its behavioural adaption to survive. For example, protection of young, feeding young, building nest or den, finding a mate, hiding predators

 

Review characteristics of the animal kingdom (notes from kingdom presentation)

 

-Lis the five groups of the five kingdoms

 

-List the classification and the animal kingdom (vertebrates and invertebrates)

 

List and describe two benefits of biodiversity (will be covered this week)

Weekly Update

 Good Morning Everyone!

Here is a quick overview of the week ahead.

 

Math- We are looking at factors and prime and composite number this week

-We will be working on the four operations

-For "Name of the Game" this week we will continue with the 6 and 7s times tables

 

Science- Students are designing an experiment involving mould 

-We will be wrapping up our biodiversity unit over the next week or so. Stay tuned for more info on an upcoming test

 -Biodiversity test is scheduled for October 30th

Literacy -Students completed a CASI assessment last week

Reading: 

-We will continue working with a short text through guided reading. We are working on proving our answers with quotes from the text

-We are continuing to explore different reading strategies through our class novel "Word Nerd"

Writing:

-We will be starting to plan out our Halloween narratives 

 

Drama- We will be starting to work on our Remembrance Day production - this year we will be creating an I-movie. More info to follow :)

Weekly Update

Good Morning,

 I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with their families. Here is a quick overview on the week ahead.

 Math-

-We will be working with Order of Operations this week and factoring - tomorrow there will be some BEDMAS questions posted

 -The name of the game will be 6 & 7s times 

-Numeration tests will be handed back tomorrow for parents signature

 

Science-

-Students have submitted their animal projects on Friday- There will be NO more time in class - Please make sure you submit your project through Google Classroom 

-We will be exploring the other kingdoms of living things this week and starting to step up our fungi experiment


Social Studies

-Through our library period, we will be starting to explore the first contact between the first nations and European Explorers

Literacy

Writing 

-Covid Recounts are passed due and should be submitted through Google Classroom

-We will be doing a Thanksgiving Writing on demand over the next few days 

-Our next writing assignment will be a Halloween Narrative

 

Reading

-Through guide reading, students will be structuring an APE response to a text
