Grade 6 S.T.E.A.M. ArtBot Project
Learning Goal: To design and create an object using 2 AA batteries and 1 motor. This object must move in some way to create “art”
Requirements (Success Criteria):
- You will work with a partner.
- Your bot must move on its own and somehow incorporate the motor provided
- Use found/recycled materials to build an artbot
- Moving might mean rolling, wobbling, bouncing, sliding, twirling, shaking
- It must somehow leave marks on the paper “floor” (that’s why it’s called an ARTbot).
- You will submit a report outlining your process and explaining your final product.
- You will present your ArtBot on the due date with the rest of the class, and we will create an AWESOME piece of collective ArtBot art.
Report Outline
Your report will resemble a scientific report, in that it will have sections and headings as follows:
Title: You may want to name your ArtBot
Student Engineers: Your names here
Objective: What is the purpose of your creation? What are you trying to do/accomplish?
Plan and Rationale: How are you planning on accomplishing your objective? What method are you going to use to make your Bot move? Why?
Materials: List all the materials and the quantity of each that you are using for your ArtBot.
Procedure: Provide step-by-step instructions for creating and operating your ArtBot
Observations/Modifications: What happened along the way? What worked? Why? What didn’t work? Why? What did you do to fix it? Why?
Conclusions: What have you learned from this project? What scientific or technological or engineering or math or art concepts/principles are demonstrated by your ArtBot? What did you learn about how things work? Can you think of other ways that you could apply what you have learned?
