Social Studies Test Review
TEST IS SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15TH
This test will be divided into 3 sections
Section 1: Multiple Choice and True and False - Please review the notes in your Social Studies folder
(Focus on the following notes: Fur Trade, First contact-Diseases, Indian Act, Inequalities between communities,
Chinese railroad, Chinese head tax, Japanese Internment Camps)
This does NOT need to be memorized.
Pay attention to the multiple choice and true and false questions on these sheets.
Section 2: Definitions
You need to be able to define the following terms
Push factor (3 examples)
Pull factor (3 examples)
Inequality (3 examples)
Chinese Head Tax (describe what it is)
Residential School (what were they and why were they created?)
Japanese Internment Camp (what were they and why were they created?)
Indian Act (what was involved with this? )
Name the 3 different types of immigrants and define them (see below)
Economic - skilled workers and business immigrants- they contribute to the economy
Family- they were sponsored by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is a spouse, partner, parent, grand-parent, child or other relative
Refugee- People who leave because they fear cruel treatment or even death in their home country
Section 3: Short Answer
-Talk about some positive and negative consequences of the fur trade
-Describe the push and pull factors of one of the groups of immigrants that were discussed
in class (Chinese, Japanese, Irish, Scottish, English, French)
-DescribeTWO challenges that new immigrants to Canada face
(climate, culture, work, lack of family support, finances, lack of job, discrimination, language)
