You must come up with a product name and a mock product

You must identify your target audience for each mode of advertisement. You must create a least two modes of advertisement. Each mode must incorporate at least three strategies talked about in class.

Choose at least 2 advertising methods:

Print Ad- you and your team will create a visually appealing ad through a poster that incorporates different advertising strategies

Television Commercial- you and your team will create a commercial that incorporates different advertising strategies. This will be video taped a presented to class

Radio Advertisement- you and your team will create and record a
           radio advertisement prompting your product

          Outdoor Advertisement- Billboard

Advertising Strategies: Check which ones are being used
Heart Strings Commercials often creates emotion  that draws you into the advertisement and makes you feel good

Life-like Settings
Sounds Good- Music and other sound effects add to the excitement of commercials
Cute Celebrities
Family Fun- Many commercials show parents enjoying their children's fun as if the toy will bring more family togetherness.

Art Bot Materials Needed

We are about to begin an exciting project for our electricity unit (See below). We have started the brainstorming phase today and have come up with a list of supplies that we need to build the "Art Bot". Students will be given some time tomorrow to experiment with the motors. First production day will be on Monday :)

Supplies needed:
Elastics
Toilet paper rolls
Paper towel rolls
cups
sponges
string
hot glue gun & glue
pringle lids
CDs
paint rollers

Grade 6 S.T.E.A.M. ArtBot Project

Purpose: To create a self-propelled, moving device (“robot”) that will “draw” on paper, creating art.

Curriculum Connections:
  • Science (Matter & Energy 2.1): follow established safety procedures for working with electricity
  • Science (Matter & Energy 2.5): use technological problem-solving skills to design, build, and test a device that transforms electrical energy into another form of energy in order to perform a function (e.g., a device that makes a sound, that moves, that lights up)
  • Science (Matter & Energy 2.6): use appropriate science and technology vocabulary, including current, battery, circuit, transform, static, electrostatic, and energy, in oral and written communication
  • Language (Writing 2.7): use a variety of forms (e.g., oral, written, graphic, multimedia) to communicate with different audiences and for a variety of purposes
  • Language (Writing 2.1): write longer and more complex texts using a wide range of forms
  • Language (Writing 3.8): produce pieces of published work to meet identified criteria based on the expectations

Requirements:
  • You will work with a partner.
  • Your bot must move on its own and somehow incorporate the motor provided
  • Moving might mean rolling, wobbling, bouncing, sliding, twirling, shaking ... you get the idea.
  • It must somehow leave marks on the paper “floor” (that’s why it’s called an ARTbot).
  • You may use any salvaged, repurposed, dismantled, or super cheap materials you can find. No kits! You do not need to spend money to do this.
  • You will submit a report outlining your process and explaining your final product.
  • You will present your ArtBot on the due date with the rest of the class, and we will create an AWESOME piece of collective ArtBot art.

Report Outline
Your report will resemble a scientific report, in that it will have sections and headings as follows:

Title: You may want to name your ArtBot

Student Engineers:  Your names here

Objective: What is the purpose of your creation?  What are  you trying to do/accomplish?

Plan and Rationale: How are you planning on accomplishing your objective?  What method are you going to use to make your Bot move?  Why?

Materials: List all the materials and the quantity of each that you are using for your ArtBot.

Procedure: Provide step-by-step instructions for creating and operating your ArtBot

Observations:  What happened along the way?  What worked?  Why?  What didn’t work?  Why? What did you do to fix it?  Why?

Outcome:  Describe your final product.  Does it meet your objective?  Are you satisfied with the result?  Why?

Conclusions:  What have you learned from this project?  What scientific or technological or engineering or math or art concepts/principles are demonstrated by your ArtBot?  What did you learn about how things work?  Can you think of other ways that you could apply what you have learned?
