Remembrance Day Assembly Info

Hey Everyone!
 I am sure by now you have heard about our beautiful presentation that we are preparing for our Remembrance Day assembly. I just wanted to let you know about different times and who will be involved when.

Team A: Scarlett, Jake, Alexis, Lincoln, Ollie, Alessandra - will be performing at the 10:10 a.m. service (junior/intermediate)

Team B: Madison, Elizabeth, Anika, Jacob, Ben, Katie- will be preforming at the 9:20 a.m. service (primary)

Backstage/Props: Ethan Aydan,Saaid, Colby (Both performances)

Tech Team: Ehsan, Oliver (Both performances)

Speakers: Claudia, Courtney, Kylee, Maddie (Both performances)

Health Assignments

Hey Everyone,
 
 Just wanted to give a quick overview of our upcoming health assignments. We will be working on these over the next couple days in our classroom.

 Assignment #1- APE Response to the following question:
What are two influences on a person's eating habits? Give support to your answer.-Due Nov. 6th


Assignment #2- Healthy Food Menu - Use the information from the PowerPoint in class  (balanced meals, portion sizes etc.) See below for more detail. I am looking for specific word choice that was talked about in class. (example: healthier cooking methods, portion size, healthy alternatives etc.) - Due Nov. 6th

Weekly Update

Math- We are finishing up with the operations -Tomorrow we will be wrapping up long division

Literacy- We are highlighting different types of figurative language this week

We are finishing our draft copy of our Halloween Narratives this week

- In reading, we are still working on creating detailed responses with the different reading strategies

Science- We finished our science test today. Thank you to the people that took the time to prepare for this test. It was very clear to see who studied. Some of you spent a lot of time preparing for this. Well done!

Health- We are going to be working through a unit on nutrition this week

Social Studies- We will be starting our social studies unit next week :) More info to follow.

The Arts: I am sure by now many of you have heard about our Remembrance Day presentation. I will be communicating assembly times this week. It is STUNNING! I am so proud of everyone for their hard work.

Update & Math Challenge

Wow! We have been SO crazy busy in our classroom! This week everything seems to be back to normal. Here is a quick update on the week ahead.

Science- Biodiversity Test- October 28th - This gives you a WHOLE WEEK to study and prepare. The review was handed out today and there is also one available on the blog- It is YOUR responsibility to ask for any notes that you are missing. Don't wait until the last day!

We has our in school engineer coming this week to do some hands on experiments with our class 


Literacy:
Writing: We are continuing to develop our Halloween Narratives -we will be exploring figurative language this week

Reading: Continuing to focus on the APE strategy when answering response questions


Math- We are exploring the four operations this week - working specifically with whole numbers


The Arts:
Drama - We are working on our Remembrance Day tableau. They are beautiful! There will be more info to come regarding assembly times

Biodiversity Review

Science Review- Test is scheduled for Monday, October 28th. A hard copy of review will be handed out on Monday. Have a great weekend!

Classification of Living Things: The purpose of most classification system is to organize members into similar groups - The seven levels of hierarchical system (Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species)

Characteristics of Life:

1. Cells- all living things have cells
2. Metabolism- all living things eat, drink, breath, excrete
3. Growth- all living things take material in to enlarge
4. Reproduction- all living things are able to produce copies of themselves
5. Irritability- all living things are able to react to change in their environment
6. Adaption – all living things are able to compete with each other for food and space to survive
7. Movement- all living things are able to move

Structural Adaptations: Is the way plants or animals look in their habitat. The plant/animal uses its structural adaption to survive. For example, speed, camouflage, teeth, eyes, fur, hair, paws claws, hoofs, legs, long necks, noses.

Behavioural Adaption: Is the way plants and animals act in their habitat. The plant or animal uses its behavioural adaption to survive. For example, protection of young, feeding young, building nest or den, finding a mate, hiding predators

Review characteristics of the animal kingdom (notes from kingdom presentation. This will be represented in multiple choice format, You do not need to memorize these )

Review five groups of the five kingdoms

Review the classification and the animal kingdom (vertebrates and invertebrates)

List and describe 2 benefits of biodiversity

List and describe 2 threats to biodiversity (will be covered next week)

List and describe 3 ways we can protect biodiversity

Hope you all have a great weekend with your family. This is a quick update for Tuesday. Remember, it is just like a normal school day. Once you arrive at school, come right into the classroom. We are hoping to be on the bus before announcements. Remember, this is a RAIN OR SHINE so dress appropriately for the weather.
