Hey Everyone,
This a friendly reminder to please check School Cash Online for our Hands On Electricity program that is taking place on February 4th. It will be left open until the end of the week.
Weekly Update:
Math- Please make sure you have seen our latest math assessment (Algebra-was sent home last week)
-We have started our fraction unit on Friday-We will be focusing on comparing and ordering fractions this week. Students are working on equivalent fractions, changing mixed numb ers into improper fractions.
Literacy- Persuasive Writing- Students are working on filling in their graphic organizer
- they are researching their topic and trying to find different facts/stats to back up their arguments
Science- Electricity - We have begun our electricity unit this week
-Students have been completing an online gizmo testing different types of circuits and different materials to see if they are conductors or insulators
-We also have been experimenting with "Makey Makey" and snap circuits
-We are doing our hands on science this afternoon

Hey Everyone,
A quick update for everyone on the week ahead.
Social Studies:
-We are finishing up our inquiry presentations tomorrow
-We have special visitor coming to our classroom tomorrow. A refugee from Syria. It will be very interesting hearing her story
Math
- We will starting our algebra unit tomorrow
-Students completed a transformation geometry quiz on Friday -They will be returned tomorrow
Literacy-
We have been really focusing on critiquing different advertisement
- Students will choose a commercial and will write and present a critique of it (using the format below)

Media Assignment
Media Assignment
This week we started our media unit and looked at different advertising strategies that are used to get people to buy a product. One of the assignments in this unit, will require you to pick a commercial to show to the class. You will then have to critique the commercial using the format we did in class (see below). Students will be given ample time in class to complete this.

You will be presenting your finding to the class. The format below will help guide you.

Happy New Year!
Hey Everyone,
I hope you all had a restful holiday, filled with lots of love and laughter. I am looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Here is a quick update on the week ahead:
Literacy-We will be exploring media literacy over the next couple of weeks
- We will be looking at advertising strategies and how they are used in a variety of different forms
-We will be critiquing a variety of different advertisements and providing proof
-We will be starting our new novel "Undergrounders"
-Remember to bring any novels you have read over the holidays to track them for our Forty Book Challenge
Math- We will be finishing up transformation geometry and starting a short algebra unit
Social Studies- Students will be finishing up their inquiry projects this week
- Oral presentations will begin later this week - Presentation dates and times will be posted on Wednesday
